Designing Energy Savings

News Single

Hey there, Georgia Power customers!

I’m here to share some important news about your upcoming electricity bills. Unfortunately, Georgia Power will be increasing rates again in 2025. This is part of a long-term plan that was approved in 2022, and it’s the latest in a series of rate hikes that have been implemented over the past few years.

What to Expect

Starting in January 2025, the average customer’s monthly bill will increase by approximately $5.85. This means that the average Georgia Power ratepayer will be paying around $171 per month for their electricity.

Why the Increase?

Georgia Power states that these rate increases are necessary to fund ongoing infrastructure projects, address higher fuel costs, and support nuclear power developments. The additional revenue will be used for:

  • Strengthening the electric grid
  • Transforming energy production
  • Investing in renewables and cleaner energy resources
  • Enhancing operations and improving customer experience

What Can You Do?

While there’s no way to avoid the rate increase altogether, there are a few things you can do to save money on your electricity bill:

  • Reduce your energy consumption. This can be as simple as turning off lights when you leave a room, unplugging appliances when you’re not using them, and weatherizing your home.

  • Sign up for Georgia Power’s energy efficiency programs. These programs can help you save money on your energy bill by providing rebates on energy-efficient appliances and home improvements.

  • Consider switching to a different electricity provider. If you’re not happy with Georgia Power’s rates, you may be able to find a better deal with another provider.

A Little Bit of Good News

The Georgia Public Service Commission has approved a motion to return approximately $122 million to customers, which will result in estimated savings of about $2.25 per month for typical residential customers using an average of 1,000 kilowatt hours. However, this adjustment will only partially offset the implementation of the 2025 rate increase.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.
